Where Children Play

While she was Out

When my daughter whisked away to girl’s camp, I recalled how I had so wished we could surprise her by getting her bedroom floor in, during her FSY church youth camp. So I ordered it then, being told that it would arrive in 2 weeks.

So now we had ONE week before it was to arrive. The day Hoppity was at camp, I said a little prayer, literally giving the Good God no time to work His work… Except dough!! He’s able to know of my prayer before it happened!! “Heavenly Father, please help the flooring arrive early so that we can surprise {Hoppity.}”

I called the flooring store. “By CHANCE, has our flooring arrived early? We’d love to put it in while our daughter is at girl’s camp.

By gum, I get a call back….It WAS in!!! “We’ll bring it out where its accessible. It will be ready to pick up tomorrow.” Hmmm…tomorrow. I swallow some disappointment, knowing we couldn’t likely put the flooring all in by way of surprise in one day. My daughter would get back in the midst of a mess.

I continue my work out in the garden.

In 15 minutes, I get another call. She is excited for me. “It turns out, the flooring is at an accessible place in the warehouse, you can pick it up any time!!”

I tell the boys. But way leads on to way, and we find ourselves leaving 30 minutes before the place closes.

But one of the dear boys had sincerely prayed, earlier, “[Dearest] Heavenly Father ~~ please help us to get there before the carpet place closes.”

I called so they were expecting us, but would you know it? My heart sank as GPS led us through a neighborhood and into the boonies. Phew, there is a big blue building, possibly a warehouse, but….ghostily, no people in sight. I call. Nope, the GPS took us to some other warehouse or large garage/shop. “Its by Beehive Grill,” the woman informed me. Cops, shield your eyes, we arrived in 5 minutes.

The “load her up” guy told us he would like to earn his day’s pay. But with all those eager boys who came to help, he smiled as they all got to work and zip zapped the flooring quickly into the car. How cute, smart and hard working of them? So fun to watch them quickly puzzle the flooring into the family van.

And by our trough we were off, closing time on the money, not a hair past 5:00.

My Beaux got right to work and he had that flooring in, in the 2 nights we had. And our cute army of boys were cleverly dismantling beds and shuffling them to where they belonged now, playing bed switch-aroo, and mantling them back together.

There was a beautiful bed with bedding which was given by Grandma Peachie, which was brought in from the mice threatened position in the garage, and waiting as a nice little guest bed till it would assume its true owner’s stewardship.

We realized a very shaky useless cubby, could make a nice cubicle to organize the clothes Hoppity low- maintenance style, kept in a clothes hamper, Clever Kiddo put some triangular pieces into all the corners, steadying it nicely. Hubby bought some poles for the closet and Hoppity’s clothes had more places to hang.

My first daughter had discussed with Hoppity many times her decorating preferences, and it was decided she wanted her room as sterile and simple as a hospital room. So as I worked, I bit my nails in some anxiety, I was nervous she wouldn’t like it. I just used what she had in her closet and window sill to decorate, and kept it ‘her’s’ . As it came together, my confidence collected. I knew it was simple and sweet, so very Hoppity.

When Hoppity arrived home, we coaxed her to put away her girl’s camp things, And, oh, what fun it was to surprise the dear, she was just so happy!! And apparently, a little more homey than a hospital room, does suite her style.

One of the sweetest girls in the world, of course she’d be appreciative of anything!!! But she especially loved this!! I think it was part of her sense of humor that she joked about her minimalistic style, to be ‘hospital room.’

The doll was a Christmas present made by her sister and mom, and dumptster dive-saved by her Dad, a miracle story for another day!!

Awww!!

But now a conondrom was created. There was now no guest bed in the basement, and our oldest daughter was arriving soon.

Stay tuned for Stone Soup Guest Room bed.

Sincerely,
